As many of us drive on scenic Hwy 120/108 through Oakdale
traveling towards Tuolumne, Calaveras and Mariposa counties,
we see the beautiful historic rock fences and corrals that
grace the foothills.
Who built these? Why were they built? And
how did they find all those rocks?
You’ll find the answers to these questions in the research
documentation and gorgeous photographs that encompass the beauty
and uniqueness of this living history exhibit.
A special thanks to exhibit curators, Twainhart Hill and Sharon
Getchel, who spent the past twelve months and countless hours
interviewing the many ranching families in four counties and
learned the stories that have been passed down generations from
the early settlers.
