NEW EXHIBIT OPENING
Stone Fences and Corrals in the South Central Sierra
Nevada Foothills
A Living History
This exhibit is about the stone fences and corrals
that are scattered throughout the Sierra Nevada foothills. They
stand in the open range land as reminders of a colorful, hardworking
past and take you back in time, but also bring you to the present
and how they are being used today. They can be seen from the
highways and back roads, while others are located on the many working
ranches in the Mariposa, Tuolumne, Stanislaus and Calaveras Counties.
The interviews and research collected for the exhibit have brought
to life the past and how it is being carried forward into the present.
Walking these lands one can feel the dreams of the people who settled
here when all things seemed possible, but also we know it was a time
when everyday survival was never taken for granted.
This exhibit will open to the public on Saturday, October 20, from
10 A.M.- 2 P.M.
at the Oakdale Cowboy Museum, 355 East “F” Street
in Oakdale.
We invite you to stop by and learn more about these stone
structures, and the living history they have to tell.
